Wednesday, 10 March 2026 – The Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF) hosted a one-day staff retreat at Mozza Resort in York Village on the outskirts of Freetown, to reflect on past achievements and challenges as well as map out priorities for the year ahead.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Yumkella expressed appreciation to staff for their commitment and contributions to the work of PI-CREF over the last two years. He encouraged staff to remain diligent, dedicated and ambitious in carrying out their responsibilities, emphasizing professionalism and hard work as key values that define the initiative.
The Initiative’s Chairman also urged staff to make the most of the opportunity to grow professionally through their work at PI-CREF, describing the initiative as a platform that can serve as a springboard for career development. He further called on Directors and staff to align their 2026 work plans with the broader PI-CREF Strategic Plan to effectively deliver on the climate and development vision of President Julius Maada Bio for Sierra Leone.
PI-CREF’s Chief Technical Adviser, Mr. Peter Kaindaneh noted that the gathering provided an important opportunity for the team to review past activities and strategically plan for the year ahead. “It is important that we take stock of what we have achieved and carefully plan our next activities as an initiative,” he said, stressing the need for strong collaboration with line Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Directors presented detailed work plans for 2026 outlining their priorities to translate the initiative’s strategic plan into real results for Sierra Leone. Dr. Patrick Kormawa, Director of Food Security and Climate Smart Agriculture, moderated the retreat with strong participation from all present. The retreat is part of PI-CREF’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and support staff in meeting its coordination mandate among other responsibilities.
